Spring, when I can get out into my flowergarden again, see what has happened during the winter, and start implementing my plans for this year's flowerbeds.

I decided to create 5 websites, because I was viewing the main nursery websites looking for new flowers, and realized they're really not well set-up for a flower gardening beginner. There is way too many distractions, especially when a gardener knows what color of flower they want, they just don't know what species.

So, I've finished 3 of the 5 websites, and they present an easier way to find your Spring flowers.

White Spring Flowers

Pink Spring Flowers

Flowers for Shade

I've got 2 more to finish, and will implement a link soon for Purple Spring Flowers and Yellow Spring Flowers

I'm Selling Aero Gardens!

Visitors must be liking the presentation and information on my Squidoo page, because they are purchasing Aero Gardens! I looked at the statistics of my web page, and would like to thank those that have found the page through this blog!

I love the concept myself, being able to grow vegetables or herbs inside without sunshine or dirt, and it must be becoming a real hot indoor garden item, as just yesterday I received an 'unsolicited' email advertising the Aero Garden, what everyone calls 'junk mail'.

I didn't click on the link, which is the whole Aero Garden picture, and I'd advise you don't either. I did look at where the link led to, and it's NOT a straight link to any known (by me) supplier of the Aero Garden, so be very very cautious! Even if it eventually does give you the opportunity to purchase, the creator of the email has grabbed your email address for future spam.

I'll be honest, the link on my Aero Garden page looks weird too, but I'll explain.....It's a commission junction link code, that takes you directly to my affiliate, that is reputable, and is a trusted supplier for Aero Gardens, so please just delete that spam email, and buy your Aero Garden from me!! Psssst....The image in this post is also clickable, leading to my trusted supplier!

Oh MY

There is so many things I've got to get caught up on! I believe the last 5 days we've had 3 of them with tornado watches and warnings! Rivers and creeks, main highways, intercity streets; have all been flooded. The Iowa news is talking about the possibility of the current weather being compared to the flood of '93.

My flowergarden is not faring well in all this high wind and over abundance of rain. I'll not talk about the hail. :(

One thing that is looking absolutely awesome is my rhubarb. When those giant stalks are ready to harvest, I'll get somebody to take a photo of me just holding the leaf. About 4 of them have got to be big enough to cover my whole body in a photo!

Such a fast season. The lilacs lasted 5 days, at best. Everything is maturing fast without giving you the time to enjoy it. See the date of my first strawberry?

I've so many pictures. At least I'm capturing the season on camera!

I just went outside to check my strawberry bed. I had weeded it last week, but hadn't put the netting over it to protect it from the damned robins. (they'll eat you out of house and home!)

God, thank-you for my home; and being able to have the kind of peace and security a woman alone needs. I know you're there, protecting me.

I'm about 20 pounds overweight from the winter (and sitting on my butt in front of this computer), so I slipped off my shorts because they were uncomfortable. I treasure the fact that I can walk out my back door and pick strawberries or just 'hang-out' in my underwear and t-shirt.

Here's the results of my strawberry pickin' in my undies. It's my 3rd time of going thru my small strawberry patch, and I had to thow away just as many as is in this pic.......because of not being able to get out there........and all the rain. There's actually alot of strawberries in the colander, enough to fill 1 quart freezer bag. That's what I'll do with them too! Savin' them and others for when I get to experiment with strawberry/rhubarb wine. Really want to learn how to make wine!

My Amaryllis Is Blooming!

Isn't he purty?? I have a heck of a time with the leaves, as they are taller/longer than the flower bloom stem. The amaryllis tried leafing out this winter, but the leaves were so long and heavy they would bend, thus cutting off the nutrients and water they needed. I cut all the damaged leaves back, and waited anxiously for new leaves to appear, so I could support them as they grew.

The pot has 3 flower bulbs, but so far only the large middle bulb has bloomed. The other 2 bulbs have produced leaves, but so far no bloom stem. I'll have to set it up a bit more stable for next year. Right now I have 3 thin steel rods for support and am just using the green florist's tape to attach the leaves to the rods.

Where's my flower garden?

Was outside yesterday, trying to get a handle on what I should do first in the backyard. As you all know, I had a really bad storm this past winter. At about 6:30 I was finally able to do the first mowing of the back yard, after this photo. That pile of 'little sticks' was what was left over after 2 pickup loads of tree limbs that fell in the backyard. For reference, the Honeysuckle bush behind and to the left is about 7 1/2 feet tall, so I'd guess my burn pile that completely covers my fire pit must be about 5 1/2 feet tall. Never would have been able to get the job done without my wheelbarrow and handy dandy 'ez grabber'. I can't bend very well, so that grabber is my life saver! My dogs and Grandson think it's a toy, and I'll chase them with it. It's got a handle-squeezer and rubber thingy's on the end, and can keep the grip on something weighing around 2 pounds.

Savin' Babies

Top photo is a Cherry tree, bottom photo I thought was an Apple tree. I went over to Gabe's (my deceased neighbor's) yesterday. I knew that the Cherry tree had split from this winter's storm, and the Apple, and 2 Peach trees didn't fare too well either. What suprised me was the Cherry tree had sprouts, so I proceeded to take cuttings of the babies, and then did the same of the Apple, and 2 different genus of Peach. Right now all the cuttings (6" to 13" long) are in water and it looks like they didn't get shocked. When they've gotten time to stabilize, I'll treat them with a powder to encourage rooting, place them in soil, and tee-pee them with saran wrap. I usually get about 80% success by this method. Edited to add.... After the tree had more time to mature this season I realized the second photo is not of an Apple blossom! I really don't know what it is, as I compared it to a known Apple tree, of which I took pictures that I'll post soon.

Yea!!!

Was working outside as quickly as possible late yesterday before the rain was supposed to start. A gardening buddy stopped by when he saw me in the front yard. Mentioned that he was going to have to rent a back hauler sometime this spring/early summer, and would be willing to dig my pond with it after he was done doing the things he needed to do!!!!

Now that sure put a smile on my face, as I've been planning and drawing my 'dream' pond for the backyard for about 4 years! He and his wife want to copy my flowergarden design for their own yard - specifically large plantings on the property line, and making a dog pen around the property line. They've already got lots of my flowers, from seeds and plants I've gifted.

Kind of sad....I met them in Church many years ago, when his wife was physically well. Although she does not share in her husband's green thumb, she had so many other interesting hobbies. Now her health has transformed her into a shadow of the shining person she used to be. Unwanted side effects of prescription medicines. I hate them, and that is why I am currently only on one pain medicine, and I actually cut the pill in half, when I must use them.

Every once in awhile, I get to view a beautiful sunrise through the window right beside my computer. I stayed outside till 7:30.

Felt Good:
Sunshine, digging in the dirt, transplanting roses, seeing my dogs happy to be outside too, getting a bit accomplished in a long list of 'to do's' concerning flower gardening chores, getting optimistic instead of pessimistic. 'Feeling' and gauging physical abilities so that I would have a pretty good idea of what could be accomplished this year outside. Having a 'sore muscles' pain (instead of the regular/constant other pain). Dug over 100 lillies and potted them. Dug 2 BIG rose bushes and potted/containered them (no pots big enough). Dug 2 regular sized rose bushes and potted them. Found a tiny mini rose, dug it up and potted it.

Felt Bad:
Stupid legs won't let me walk very far before they feel like 800 pounds apiece. Had to take pain medicine more than usual. Couldn't get more done. Probably have to take pain medicine as soon as waking in the morning.

Paybacks are hell. Lot of people playing lottery tickets and going to the gambling establishments. I did my part, bought 2 scratch-offs; a 2.00 and a 3.00. Didn't win anything. Also bought a lotto ticket with the extra option, drawing tonight.

Been on this computer non-stop for 4 days, had to take a break this morning and pick up the house, looked like a slob lives here. But now I'm back, and ready to go to Squidoo again. I love it! I've made 23 mini web pages (they call them lenses), in my first 27 days. Come check them out by looking at my first page, about my flower garden.

At the top of the page you can click on my Bio, and it will show you all the other pages I've made.

Right now I'm busy at Squidoo with a new inspiration. I designed a bunch of pages about Dogs,
and now I'm designing a bunch of pages for dog owners of specific breeds. I think every dog owner has a few dog collectibles, so I've put all the collectibles I could find on one page for them, according to the breed of dog.

I've finished Dachshund Collectibles, Rottweiler Collectibles, Golden Retreiver Collectibles, and Beagle Collectibles; and I have about 27 more to finish!

If ya check it out, drop me a line at the bottom of each page, or if you like what I've done, click the stars at the top of each page, as it will help my ranking!
Later, Deb

Just Call Me Ms. Dog Sitter

Whew, glad this weekend is just about over. My son came by Friday and asked me if I could watch his dog, since they wanted to go camping. Yukon Jack is a 4 year old registered black lab. A huge black lab weighing in at 125 pounds. He's got feet the size of a pony's hoofs. Thank Goodness he's very good natured and gets along fine with my 3 dogs. He loves the fact that 1 year old Sissy (a boxer mix) is at Grandma's, and finally has a playmate that can keep up with him. Ms. Dog Sitter's total this weekend was 6 dogs, and she's getting worn out.

Dogs

I'm dog-sitting for 2 weeks. My neighbor has 2 jack russell terriers, and he took a trip to see his family over this coming holiday. I've watched his dogs two other times while he was gone also. Kind of a pain, going over there every 2-3 hours to check on them and let them outside, but it's better than what this area offers for kenneling. The very first time he took a trip, he used a kennel, and when he got back, found his female was so traumatized that she didn't eat and would back into a corner scared and trembling and urinate.

I have 3 dogs myself. They are my companions, as I live by myself. I discovered Squidoo on June 9th of this year, and decided to make some pages featuring my dogs. I've owned some type of animal all my life. I was the little one that used to find wild rabbit bunnies and try to nurse them back to health.

Squidoo is very cool, and best of all FREE! They call the pages lenses, so if you have some time, check out my dog lenses. I have a Dog Health lens, that has lots of information about first aid, vitamins, and what to look for in a healthy dog.

Another is Dog Medicines and Their Side Effects, where I've listed 4 of the 5 classes of drugs that are used for dogs with their harmful side effects, so you can find out exactly what your vet has prescribed for your dog.

I made a Dog Collar lens, that has a link to my amazon store, for leather dog collars, training dog collars, designer dog collars, fancy dog collars, and rhinestone dog collars.

I did the same for Dog Beds, with large dog beds, orthopedic dog beds, designer dog beds, and heated dog beds.

A very large percentage of dogs get arthritis, and some of the medicines used for dog arthritis are harmful, so I made a lens for Dog Arthritis, it lists all the NSAIDs, (the 5th class of drugs used for dogs), and their side effects.

Since everyone at some time gets the awful experience of fleas with their dog, I decided to make a lens for that. Flea Control gives you lots of information about fleas, plus my recommendation of a product to get rid of them.

My last lens in this dog series is Ear Mites. It's got important information on how dangerous ear mites are for your dog if they are left untreated.

A Flower and A Herb

This is purple coneflower in my back yard flower garden.
